Cairo, Dec. 22 (Petra) – Jordan participated in the 10th edition of the Cairo International Biennial of the Arabic Calligraphy Art, organized by Egypt’s Cultural Development Fund, in the presence of the Jordanian Embassy’s representative, Media Counselor Alaa Al-Zyoud, diplomats, and a gathering of calligraphers, researchers, and specialists in the arts of Arabic calligraphy.
Artist Yasser Yousef Jarabah, head of the Amwaj Association for Culture and Arts in Jordan and director of the Aqaba International Festival for Arabic Calligraphy and Islamic Ornamentation, took part in the forum with artistic works presented through calligraphic panels and delivered a special seminar entitled "Mamluk Thuluth Script at Aqaba Castle: An Analytical Study," which was attended and followed by intellectuals, artists, and forum participants.
In remarks to the Jordan News Agency (Petra), Jarabah said the Jordanian participation came within the framework of ongoing efforts to preserve Arab identity and strengthen the presence of Arabic calligraphy in international forums.
He explained that Jordan participated in the forum with four panels featuring classical calligraphic styles, including Muhaqqaq script, Thuluth script, Kufic script, and Naskh script.
Jarabah noted that this participation forms part of a national effort represented by the Ministry of Culture through supporting educational schools of Arabic calligraphy and establishing art centers in various cities, which have contributed to graduating new generations of calligraphers. He said 18 students have graduated with mastery of four types of Arabic scripts, alongside large numbers who are still studying and training in this field.
